Multimedia online practical award giving ceremony

Story telling is one of the most important key in Journalism therefore students are given a chance to show case their creative writing skills in multimedia online practicals.

On the 3rd of August 2022, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) second year students attended an award ceremony for multimedia online practicals.

 Mrs. Sholain Govender- Bateman and Miss Zanele Mbengo conducted an award giving ceremony for students who have succeeded in writing the best stories for Tut JournExpress.

Joy Lethabo Malapo a 23-years old journalism student at TUT was one of the students who were at the top 10 best story writing list. Miss Malapo wrote an article about the spirit of Marula festival.

“I wrote about the Marula festival because it’s one of the biggest festivals in my province, we celebrate the Tsonga tribe. The event focuses on the history of Tsonga tribe, it’s seems most people take the Tsonga tribe for granted but it is a quite an interesting culture to learn about,” she explained.

Tshwane University of Technology JournExpress blog is the biggest platform for journalism students. Best written stories are posted on the platform every week. Miss Lethabo expressed how she felt when she saw her story on JournExpress and on the top 10 list.

She said that the moment they were told that the best stories are going to be posted on the JourneExpress, she wanted to make sure that her article will be one of stories on the blog platform and that was achieved. She further added that the moment she saw her article on the top ten, she was excited that she even called home to tell them the good news.

She further explained what her idea was when she was writing the Article, she said that the idea was to gather people around and attract them with the beautiful and colorful event, which is presenting the Tsonga nation. 

 She added that people can get to know another culture through a little piece of article, people will get to experience everything that other people are experiencing on the event.

Multimedia award giving ceremony gave second year journalism students a platform to feel special and appreciated for the hard work they put when they were writing their beautiful stories.
